The safety guidelines below help you enjoy using your grill or other propane appliance correctly and safely.

  • Always follow your grill manufacturer’s instructions and keep printed safety materials accessible.
  • When lighting the grill, always make sure the grill top is open.
  • To ensure proper propane tank safety storage, always keep cylinders outdoors in an upright (vertical) position.
  • When refilling a cylinder, make sure the supplier checks for dents, damage, rust, or propane gas leaks.
  • Before connecting or lighting a propane gas grill, use a leak-detection solution (available from your propane retailer) to check for leaky connectors. NEVER use matches or lighters to check for leaks.
  • If you find an uncontrollable gas leak, get everyone away from the area and call 911 IMMEDIATELY.
  • When not in use, always turn off controls and close cylinder valves.
  • When not in use, cover disconnected hose fittings with plastic bags or protective caps to keep them clean.
  • NEVER store propane cylinders indoors, in your car, or in your garage, shed, or carport.
  • When exchanging your cylinder, plan your trip so that it is the last thing you do before going home. Do not leave your cylinder in your car for long periods, especially in hot weather. Keep your cylinder upright at all times when transporting, whether it’s empty or full.
  • NEVER use, store, or transport cylinders near high temperatures
  • NEVER store spare cylinders, empty or full, near the grill or other flammable materials.
  • NEVER allow children to tamper or play with the cylinder or grill.
  • NEVER smoke while handling a propane cylinder.
